Seeking new Musical Director

With the retirement of Peter Johnson, Ross Penyard Singers are seeking their next Musical Director.

Founded in 2000 we are approximately 40 members made up of mixed ability singers based in Ross-on-Wye. Ten of the choir have performed solos at previous concerts; typically held in May and November each year. Our recent concert programme at St Mary’s Church in Ross included: – Faure Requiem- Puccini Credo- Mozart Ave Maria- Bruckner Locus Iste – Handel Zadok the Priest. Our Spring concert tends to veer away from classical into modern works, musicals etc.

Ross Penyard Singers rehearse on Wednesday evenings in school term time, from 7 – 9pm at Christ Church, Edde Cross Street in Ross. We are fortunate to be financially viable, retain a truly excellent accompanist along with an active committee who manage finance, membership and events. We offer an open door policy for rehearsals and recruitment; no auditions so just feel free to drop in.

The prime requirement for our Musical Director is to lead/conduct the choir and small orchestra at concerts and during rehearsals. Good people skills with a sense of humour greatly enhance rehearsals. Our Musical Director selects the music for concerts potentially providing learning aids for difficult parts. Prior experience with choral works and musical arranging would distinguish a candidate. A stipend is available for the post of Musical Director in lieu of this work.

We are currently on winter break following a recent outing to sing carols. Rehearsals for 2022 begin on Wednesday Jan 12th with a member of the choir leading the choir. Promising candidates to become our Musical Director will be promptly invited to a 30 minute audition with the full choir on a rehearsal night. Once selected, our new Musical Director will take up the baton as soon as available.
