New Music Director Appointed

We are delighted to announce that Professor Peter Johnson has been appointed as our new Music Director.

Peter was formerly Head of Research at Birmingham Conservatoire and is a very experienced keyboard player, choir trainer and conductor.

Brought up in Dursley, Gloucestershire, he was taught piano and organ by Herbert Sumsion at Gloucester Cathedral. Graduating from Cambridge, he taught composition in Brazil for four years before return to complete his doctorate. He has subsequently pursued a career combining academic work and performance.

Major choral works he has conducted include the Verdi Requiem and Tippett’s A Child of our Time. He has worked extensively with church choirs (of diverse shapes and sizes), and for many years ran a chamber choir specialising in cathedral music, deputising for the resident choirs at Canterbury, Westminster Abbey, Worcester, Gloucester and many others.

Now retired, we are planning to keep him just as busy!

You can see Peter in action conducting our next concert, “When Handel Came to Town” on Saturday 24th November 2018, The Venue, Ross-on-Wye, 7:30pm. Tickets £10
